AB losses and expenses

Income Replacement Benefit

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays 70% of your gross income to a maximum of $400 per week.

Non-Earner Benefit

This benefit is payable Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pay $185 per week. 

Caregiver Benefit

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays $250 per week for the first child in the need of care and $50 per week for each additional child in the need of care.

Housekeeping and Home Maintenance Benefits

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays up to $100 per week.

Attendant Care Benefit

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays upward of $6,000 per month for the services of an eligible person to assist you with your personal care needs. 

Medical and Rehabilitation Benefits

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays for reasonable and necessary expenses incurred for accident-related treatment and assessment.  


This benefit pays based on the category your injuries are deemed to fall under. The categories and maximum amount payable are as follows:

  • Minor injuries, which is laid out in the Minor Injury Guideline (MIG). Max payable for the life of the claim is $3,500.00
  • Non-MIG/Non-catastrophic injuries. Max payable for the life of the claim is $50,000.00
  • Catastrophic injuries. Max payable is $1,000,000.00

Visitors Expenses

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays for reasonable and necessary expenses incurred by a person visiting you during your treatment and recovery from your accident-related injuries.


The SABS does not specify a maximum amount ($) payable for this expense. This expense merely needs to be reasonable and necessary. 

Loss Education Expenses

Subject to your eligibility, this benefit pays up to $15,000 for lost educational expenses incurred by or on behalf of you.

Damaged Items Worn And Used At Time Of Accident

This benefit pays for all reasonable expenses incurred by or on behalf of you for the repair or replacement of the following items damaged or lost as a result of the accident: 

- clothing worn by you at the time of the accident and 

- any medical or dental devices.

Death Benefit

Subject to the eligibility requirements, this benefit pays as follows:

1.) a lump sum of $25,000.00 to your spouse, 

2.) a lump sum of $10,000.00 to each person, inclusive of former spouse, you had a support obligation to under a domestic contract or court order

3.) a lump sum of $10,000.00 to each of your dependant

4.) a lump sum of $10,000.00 to each person you were a dependant of  

Funeral Benefit

Subject to the eligibility requirements, this benefit pays up to $6,000.00 of funeral expenses.
